Description The aim of this article is to summarize knowledge about gifted children’s personality traits raging from the second half of the 20th century to present years. Since Lewis Terman‘s research, experts working with gifted students have tried to answer the question of what makes the gifted child. However, these who attempted for a comprehensive description of the personality traits concepts have faced many issues – both methodological and definitional. Selected theoretical concepts are discussed in more detail: Dabrowski‘s theory of developmental potential, factor personality models, influence of attachment and implicit personality theories of the gifted. Stability of personality traits in time is discussed as well. The conclusion provides readers with a summary of current knowledge and proposes its implications related to identification of gifted students by practitioners in the field.
