| Description | This chapter presents professional development is a lifelong process. In the current type of Western society, the requirement for people moving in the labour market to be prepared for flexibility in response to changing working conditions and changes in the structure of employment opportunities is coming to the fore. A career path consisting of a long-term tenure in a single job, or even in a single job held throughout one's working life, is an increasingly rare type of career. Over-specialised training is therefore increasingly likely to become a handicap for its holder. |
