Description The paper focuses on two interwar European movements, the European movement of Karl Anton Rohan and the Pan-European movement of Nikolaus Coudenhove-Kalergi, two Europeans who spent some of their lives on the border between the German and the Habsburg empires, which after 1918 became the Czechoslovak–Austrian, or the Czechoslovak–German border. In a contrasting way, the activities of both movements are analyzed, just as are analyzed publishing platforms (books and magazines), on which both European intellectuals after World War I tried to formulate the foundations of their concepts and appeal to the audience. Instead of the predominant contrast between the ‘good European’ Coudenhove Kalergi and the allegedly ‘evil’ Rohan in the literature, the present paper attempts to refine this contrast by focusing on later written memoirs of both authors, interpreting various forms of self-styling arguments, procedures and narratives. Finally, this contrast then relates to the different concepts of magazines that these Europeans published in the 1920s and 1930s.
