Description The chapter summarizes the development of the historical climate on the territory of the Czech lands during the last millennium in the context of Central Europe. The description is based on quantitative reconstructions of air temperature, precipitation and drought indices, as well as on chronologies of selected hydro-meteorological extremes such as windstorms and floods. The reconstructions were compiled on the basis of direct and indirect indicators (natural proxy data and documentary evidence). The main features of the development for a long period, in which the climate was formed mainly under the influence of natural climate-forcings with a gradually increasing anthropogenic influence on the environment, are emphasized. At the same time, the compiled reconstructions show the extreme limits in which our climate changed in the relatively recent past.
