| Description | The association between certain mental disorders and metabolic syndrome (MS) does not appear to be coincidental. MS covers a number of risk factors, the joint presence of which leads to an increase in cardiovascular risk, the development of DM II. type and related complications. The mortality rate of patients suffering from serious mental disorders is 2-3 times higher than that of the psychiatrically untreated population, mainly due to somatic comorbidities. MS is often associated with the undesirable metabolic effects of antipsychotics, but also other psychopharmaceuticals such as antidepressants and mood stabilizers. |
