Description Cps6 mutant of the fission yeast is defective in cytokinesis, resulting in the formation of multiseptated cells. It is also more sensitive to digesting reagents than the wild type cells, suggesting that the mutant wall is altered in its composition or organization. The aim of this work was to examine wall and septum organization at the ultrastructural level and reinvestigate cytoskeleton in relation to aberrant phenotype. The results showed that the wall was less compact and more spongy with predominance of microfibrillar component.Lateral wall and septa were thicker. Septa remained unseparated.Cytoskeleton was well developed. Cps6 mutation may interfere with the termination of the synthesis of lateral wall and septum. Gene rad25+ coding for one of 14--3-3 homologs that complements cps6 mutation may be involved in pathway of cell wall integrity and proliferation.
