Description The influence of argon, nitrogen, oxygen and helium on the laser-induced plasma and LA ICP AES signal of selected elements was investigated and compared for several types of metal samples such as steel, aluminum alloy and brass. Other experimental parameters, e.g. laser energy, focalization, emission lines and time profile of the plasma spectrum were also characterized to obtain optimum experimental conditions for estimation of the element composition of the different metal samples.
