Description This paper deals with the problem of discrimination in the history of law, especially in the ancient Rome. Contemporary conception of equality before the law differs from its conceptions in the past legal systems. It is interesting to compare the contemporary formal and material equality before the law and its development especially in those societies which presuppose the inequality as the element of the realm of law. This paper deals with the statuses in Roman law and other ancient law systems.
