Description The article deals with the competitiveness of air transport. In the introduction the competitive position of air transport in the transport market is dealt with in theory, stating both the circumstances explaining the rise in its competitiveness, and also representative statistical data illustrating concrete changes in the transport market in Europe. In the second part of the article, a brief empirical analysis of the competitiveness of air transport was carried out in a specific region of Central Europe. Mainly the following facts were subject to the analysis: demand for air transport, connectivity of air transport networks and competitive public land transport modes (trains, buses), immediate competitiveness of air transport on routes with direct air services.
