Description This paper deals with the legal regulation of the European Union funds. These funds are instruments of the European Union cohesion policy and strive for steady economic and social development of all EU Member States and their regions. We classify Structural Funds (the European Regional Development Fund and the European Social Fund), the Cohesion Fund and other funds among the funds provided by the European regulations. The aim of this paper is to provide a comprehensive overview of funds in the European Union, to present their historical evolution and to evaluate the existing legal regulation. The possible future evolution of legal norms in this area will be outlined. Authors will also focus on the methods of funding for particular funds, namely on the revenue side. The purposes for using the money provided by the fund will be taken into account. At last but not least a role of the funds in the national legal order and the influence of the European Union funds on the national budgets will be analyzed.
