Description Lectins are multivalent proteins or glycoproteins of non-immunogenic origin which recognize and bind reversibly to diverse sugar structures. This study deals with bioinformatical search and analysis of lectins from molds and mushrooms. Fungal proteins similar to known lectins were identified based on sequence similarity. 3D structures of potential lectins and proteins with lectin domain were predicted. Majority of proteins share structure similarity with lectins classified into fungal lectin families (A. aurantia, C. cinereus, P. cornucopiae, F. velutipes and ricin family). They are probably new members of fungal lectin families. There were also identified fungal proteins similar to lectins from L. sulphureus, S. sclerotiorum and P. velutina as well as to plant mannose specific lectins.
