Masaryk University Rector’s Award for Outstanding Teachers

  • 6 May – 5 June 2015
  • Masaryk University

While the evaluation of MU employees within the framework of the annually presented Rector’s Awards has traditionally focused on research, the newly introduced Rector’s Award for Outstanding Teachers is specifically designed to recognize the quality of educational activities. Thus, for the purposes of this category, only the educational activities of individual nominees will be assessed.

Award Focus

  • The award is designed to recognize the outstanding teaching activities of internal MU teachers.
  • Any educator working at MU may be nominated (teacher, supervisor, etc.).
  • Doctoral students are excluded from receiving award nominations, as they are still preparing for their full-time teaching positions. External MU employees (i.e. persons employed on the basis of an agreement to complete a job or an agreement to perform work) are also excluded from receiving award nominations.

Nominations

  • Teachers may be nominated by all MU students with the exception of lifelong learning participants.
  • Nominations must be submitted via a designated IS MU application.
  • Each student may nominate 1 to 3 teachers in each of his/her studies.
  • A student may nominate one teacher no more than once.
  • As with all other Rector's Award categories, the nominations are not anonymous. Nevertheless, information about who a student nominated is never communicated to the teachers themselves.

Evaluation

  • The competition will be evaluated by a Rector’s committee established for this purpose. Committee members include: Vice-deans for studies from all faculties, three student representatives nominated by the student chamber of the MU Academic Senate, Vice-rector for academic affairs (committee chair)
  • The committee will take into consideration the ranking of nominated teachers compiled on the basis of the number of student nominations as well as additional information regarding the educational activities of teachers in leading positions.
  • The evaluation will be conducted separately for each faculty and the committee will thus announce a total of 9 winners.
  • Each winner will receive a small bronze medal and a cash prize.

Student Raffle

  • Students who submit at least one nomination are eligible for inclusion in a raffle to win a range of prizes including e.g. tickets to Scala cinema and MU sweatshirts and T-shirts.
  • Three students from each faculty will be selected at random and informed of their winnings by email.

See the competition rules for further information.
