Vasulka Live Archive. Videomapping

The projection will be realized in the times:

  • 18:00–18:30
  • 19:00–19:30
  • 20:00–20:30

Videomapping VASULKA LIVE ARCHIVE will provide a monumental projection on the facade of the Brno House of Arts, which is created from fragments of Steina and Woody Vašulka's videos interwoven with visualizations of artificial neural networks, whose analytical interventions in the archive take the form of granular deconstruction of image surfaces. The structure of the front wall of the House of Art is an ideal basis for rhythmic layering and juxtaponization of audiovisual material in spatial installations. The result is a new work based on the remixed aesthetics of a music video, providing a kaleidoscopic spectacle of the Vasulkas' work.

"Videomapping is part of the exhibition triptych, which will offer unusual interfaces for getting acquainted with the work of the Vašulkas. A large-format, videomapping projection interacting with the architecture of the Brno House of Arts will be followed by a presentation of their work in fully immersive virtual reality and a permanent interactive exhibition of videos on a website equipped with artificial intelligence, "said curator Jana Horáková.

Unusual exhibition formats, such as videomapping, virtual reality, and a special website (vasulkalivearchive.net), whose functionalities allow you to use the analytical potential of machine learning, are part of testing various ways of making the content of the Vašulka archive accessible. They represent alternatives to the classic gallery presentation and are also resistant to anti-pandemic measures.
