In a short stop, the author asks what a musical is, how it came into being and whether it is "revenge on opera for its pride". It will be a brief reflection on the origins of the musical and its separation from opera and operetta in Europe and the USA. The reflection will be accompanied by excerpts, creating a transition to a possible discussion.
