DNA barcoding of cryptogams, including biosystematic studies of selected groups.
This project has established a collaboration between the Masaryk University (Brno, Czech Republic) and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU, Trondheim, Norway). The collaboration was challenging because of the sharing research area and working on the similar research questions. Some additional selected taxonomic experts from other institutions has been associated to get broader view on the specific scientific topics. The project aims has been DNA-barcoded 100 taxa of bryophytes and lichens as the first attempt to DNA-barcoding of the cryptogams in the Czech Republic, and established a permanent workstation for DNA-barcoding at the Masaryk University. To get knowledge and implement NGS approach at the Masaryk University has been also the great challenge. This project has increased the level of competence of students and staff of the Masaryk University when it comes to DNA barcoding and NGS approaches in biosystematics.
