Description Combinatorics is nowadays not a part of the basic school curricula, but it is part of the study programme leading to the qualification of a basic school teacher. Combinatorial problems connect exact formulation and calculation. The formulas for the calculation of the number of combinations, variations, and permutations can only be used correctly, if we can decide, on the basis of the formulation of the problem, whether the order of the elements matters, whether or not the individual elements are the same or different. In my contrubution, I present some combinatorial problems that can be solved without the knowledge of combinatorial formulas. The contribution is a part of research on effective methods of teaching combinatorics at elementary schools.
