| Description | A paleopathologic analysis of bone remnants from Dolní Věstonice Na Pískách dated 9th till 11th century was carried out in the Medical Anthropology Department of Anatomical Institute of Masaryk University Medical Faculty. The paleopathologic diagnostics was grounded on an anthropological analysis and a detailed macroscopic investigation mainly. The spectrum of diseases found did not differ from findings in other Slavonic sites significantly. The most frequent pathological changes were symptoms of a degenerative productive process and traces of traumas. It was not possible, however, to differentiate a primary injury from a therapeutic intervention (trephination) fully in two cases. Symptoms of tuberculosis were observed out of inflammatory diseases. Nonspecific inflammations were diagnosed sporadically as well as benign osseous tumour. The reason must be the poor state of preservation of the skeleton set, though, because the prevalence of osseous pathologies had to be much higher. |
