Description Although studies have shown strong genetic influence (up from 80%) to achieve peak bone mass, bone is metabolically active tissue that is throughout life influenced by environmental factors. Prevention is mostly targeted to women after menopause, but it is a secondary prevention. Primary prevention should be focused on childhood and adolescence, because in this period, creating bone tissue and lifestyle habits, which include the total diet, exercise and smoking.
