Description Drought acts as an ecological filter shaping benthic invertebrate assemblages that can be passed only by organisms with either high resistance or resilience. The dry event thus leaves its „footprint“ detectable even after the habitats are reflooded. We have tested three approaches to distinguish between intermittent and permanent streams: (i) we tried to find species that can be used as intermittency/permanency indicators, (ii) we compared representation of selected species traits in the assemblages, (iii) we compared biotic indices of these two stream types. The three tested methods will be used to develop a summarizing method of retrospective indication of stream intermittency. The project is supported by grant TA02020395.
