Description Masaryk University accepts thousands of internationals students every year. Each semester about thirty of them sign up for the course of Intercultural Communication in which they analyze their intercultural experience based on the theories of intercultural communication. The students submit Reflective Journals in which they reflect on their experience with culture shock, stereotypes, prejudice, ethnocentrism, and cultural misunderstandings arising from cultural differences in intercultural communication. The study herein presented was designed with the following objectives: to find out how the students’ intercultural experience affects their identity (1), how they assert their national and personal identity in intercultural situations (2), how and to which extent is the students’ intercultural experience influenced by their individualistic or collectivistic tendencies (based on the individualistic-collectivistic dimension of cultural variability that contributes to the content of cultural identities) (3). Data representing results of the study were gathered by means of discourse analysis of approximately five hundred Reflective Journals collected from over one hundred international students of various nationalities (e.g., U.S. Americans, Mexicans, Spanish, Dutch, French, German, Polish, Japanese, Chinese, South African, and others).
