Citation
Description The book is based on a catalogue containing roughly 70 objects (altar and independent images, statues and chapels) associated with the theme of souls in purgatory, and coming from Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia from 1640 to 1800. The main interest has been in the question of imagination, images of thought and reflection on images in the context of what is commonly called the anthropology of the image. From the methodological point of view we combined various approaches depending on the focus of the individual chapters, or more precisely in line with whether we were mainly concerned with the content of the message (iconography, iconology), the form of the message (structural semantic analysis and questions of imagination, meditation and communication in and through the image) or with religious practice (approaches of cultural history).
