Description The submitted paper focuses on the media image of the Battle of Zborov, which in the ideology of the First Republic represented one of the initiating moments of the nascent Czechoslovak independence. The text also draws primary attention to legionnaires acting as predecessors of armed forces of the emerging country. Due to the fact that it was them who represented the active component of the nation struggling for emancipation from Cisleithania and the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, it may be expected that the state-forming press of the First Republic will use them to manifest the national and governmental unity of the Czechoslovak Republic. The aim of the paper is to demonstrate manners and techniques in which this was achieved with the help of the legionnaire’s legacy and the symbolism associated with the Battle of Zborov.
