Description Red clover (T. pratense L.) is one of the most important forage crops in the Czech Republic. Clover genomes are highly variable and polymorphic because of their alogamy and strong gametophytic self-incompatibility. A diploid variety Start (T. pratense, 2n = 14, 418 Mbp) was selected for whole-genome sequencing by Illumina. Assemblied contigs were searched by SSRLocator for microsatelite loci, which were used for design of 69 714 SSR markers. Validation of selected 99 SSR markers was conducted on a set of 39 czech red clover varieties. 16 highly polymorphic markers were used to asses intraspecific diversity and identification of 26 czech varieties. 8 selected polymorphic markers were used to estimate variability of hybrid varienty Pramedi using a PIC (Polymorphic Information Content) value.
