Description Mass media has been linked with functioning of modern societies and with the right to freedom of expression. This position has enabled the expansion of network media, which increasingly contribute to the dialogue between elected representatives and the public. Another aspect entering into this situation is the economic stake which media have and which is subject to the laws of production. Media production can therefore knowingly or unknowingly influence the public space and the views of citizens. It comes as no surprise then that media have become part and parcel of interests and attendant ambitions of the political sphere. The attention of politicians to media appears to be a logical consequence, conducted in the form of pressure, regulation or pandering. The current interest of politicians in the cultivation of media literacy seems to be an open confession of concerns about the negative aspects of power potential which media messages possess. This attitude can further be explained in connection with the debate how such cultivation should be carried out. The present paper illustrates several examples of the problematic points concerning the relationship between media and politics.
