Description The work addresses the evaluation of the properties of hydrolysable tannins and the different possibilities of their application on the corroded iron objects. It is based on a previous study which was devoted to examining the effect of pH tannate solutions on the quality of the particular surface treatment. Further research focuses on the assessment of the working conditions in which the tannate solutions are applied, especially the effect of ambient relative humidity and the procedure of drying the objects. In this context, spectrophotometric determination of iron was used as an indicator of stability of the resulting tannate coating. Also, the effectiveness of different concentrations of the tannin solutions was evaluated in connection with the composition of the corrosion products formed in the context of realistic soil conditions. The characteristics of the corrosion layers was created using contrasting elemental maps SEM-EDX which were also applied in the analysis of the depth of the tested solutions penetration into the corrosion layers.
