Description This article deals with defining the state role in ensuring cyber security. In particular, it aims to explain the role of the state and it creates a basic overview of state actions in cyberspace. These actions are divided into four areas: law enforcement, intelligence services activities, cyber defense and critical information infrastructure protection. In each of these areas a detailed list of the various methods, tools and techniques is presented. Last but not least, this article identifies fundamental problem areas that must be addressed by the state in order to ensure cyber security.
