Description Functional onomastics broadens its methodological concepts of the traditional etymological onomastics by introducing the proprium – communication relation. The proprial sphere of language represents a binary counter-pole of the appellative sphere. Its difference consists in the specific type of language communication, para-systemic character of language tools, meanings, functions, and in its contribution to the communication act (proprium nominates, not predates). Proprial sphere of society is being delimited outside the language. It encompasses all forms and means of the social need to use proprium for the sake of naming something. Proprial sphere of society preconditions the existence of the proprial sphere of language. It determines the prenominal system-creating categories, especially the selection of proprial objects and proprially-naming motives. The interactions taking place between the two spheres are materialized in the act of proprial nomination. This is followed by the post-nomination phase (which means by the integration of the proprium into communication ecosystem). The findings prove to have impact on the generic theory of onomastics, and on its position within the generic linguistics.
