Description | Total hip replacement (arthroplasty) is oné of the most common orthopaedic surgical procedures with a significant impact on the patient 's quality of life (QOL). The aim of the presented study was to evaluate the impact of total hip arthroplasty on the patient 's quality of life and on cost-effectiveness analysis of this proceduře. Materiál and Methods: Prospective děse riptive questionnaire survey performed for 74 patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty in oné smáli hospital during the period of oneyear. The WHOQOL BREF questionnaire was ušed for quality of life evaluation. Cost effectiveness analyses (CEA) was doně for the impact on quality of life of the total hip arthroplasty evaluation. Retrospective analyses of patient records for cost of healthcare facility was applied. Results: Most patients evaluated their quality of life as "improved", following the surgery. In rare cases the QOL was evaluated as lower in patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty after injury and fracture of the femoral neck. Cost effectiveness analyses háve proven a positive impact of total hip arthroplasty on patients' QOL. Personál costs related to total hip arthroplasty and following therapy were quite high especially for elderly patients who are retired and háve retirement pensions as their only income. Conclusion: Total hip arthroplasty is generally perceived positively in all of the domains of quality of life in selected group of patients. The most significant positive change was observed in the domain of physical health. |
