Description The author analyses the state of knowledge of the origin and early development of the Bohemian and Moravian nobility. It summarizes older opinions of historians, especially S. Zháněl, V. Vaněček, F. Graus, S. Russocki, D. Třeštík and J. Žemlička, and argues against the concept of the elimination of old dukes and the aristocracy and the subsequent gradual emergence of first the so-called beneficiary and then land nobility, from the company of the Přemyslid dukes and kings. It also disagrees with the idea that in the 10th to 12th centuries there was in fact no free land ownership held by the nobility, and that free ownership only developed gradually since the second half of the 12th century.
