Description This text is concerned with the concept of norm grasped as the meaning of norm sentence, which was elaborated by Ota Weinberger. Origins of Weinberger’s interest in logic of norm sentences, which was initiated by František Weyr and further formed by criticism of Engliš’s proposal. Weinberger’s normological optimism, belief in the possibility of the logic of norm sentences is his starting-point. This position is presented as possible motivation for construction of, so called dichotomy semantics. Dichotomy semantics, also labelled as gnoseologically differentiate semantics, among other things, strictly divides descriptive and prescriptive meaning of sentences, which is supposed to lead to block the reduction of normative discourse to descriptive one. Text is also focused on philosophical background of conception of meanings as ideal entities and on distinction between propositions and norms in Weinberger’s theory. It is proposed that distinction between descriptive and normative meaning and construction of the norm sentence and its meaning in such a way that it is not possible to separate normative operator and content of norm sentence without reduction of norm to proposition leads in Weinberger’s theory to possibility to step forward in the direction of normological optimism. Finally, as an example of application of this theory of norm, Weinberger’s definition of entailment is briefly described.
