Description In the presented study, in addition to the influence of gender, the influence of a favorite subject and the overall attitude of pupils to natural history were also ascertained. The research sample consisted of 498 secondary school pupils from 16 Czech primary schools. The ratio of girls to boys was approximately balanced. There were 77 students with a popular science subject. It was used as a research tool questionnaire containing 25 scaled Likert-type items. Using factor analyzes, the items were divided into 4 dimensions: Importance of natural history and natural history experiments, Difficulty of natural history, Popularity of the teacher and the use of natural history aids and Interest in natural history and importance for future life. The t-test for independent samples and then the Mann-Whitney test were used to find out the differences between the individual variables. Girls were more positive about science than boys. Finally, other options for research in this area are suggested.
