| Description | This monograph investigates the phonetic development of the Sichuan dialect of Chinese. From the point of view of synchronic and diachronicity the initials, finals, tones of Sichuan dialect and their compatibility are described. The phonetic classification of Sichuan dialect's accents was given, the questions of its glottochronological and etymostatistical dating were studied, and the trends of modern development of the dialect were outlined. A significant part of the linguistic material is represented in the form of maps and tables. The monograph will be useful to linguists, working in the field of Chinese linguistics, dialectology, comparativism and typology, as well as to students of the relevant specialties. |
