Description The paper shows the position in which phi-auxiliary s appears with the -l-participle forming a verbal complex with the meaning of past tense. This phi-auxiliary, found only in Czech, behaves schizophrenically: (a) as a clitic preferring the Wackernagel position of C2, but appearing optionally in the position of C3 or C4 before the -l-participle; (b) as a clitic appearing in the adjacent position behind the -l-participle. In the clitic cluster, it prefers the adjacent position behind the reflexive clitics. Tests show that phi-auxiliary has the status of a clitic, not a mobile affix.
