Citation
Description In the context of individual ageing, food is an important and frequent topic. Typically, the nutritional aspect of diet or the ability to independently acquire and consume food is addressed due to the significant risk of malnutrition. Food is also often one of the first things addressed for the person in need of care, whether in the form of importing ready-made lunches or shopping and preparing meals. In our research project we are looking at the social and cultural meaning of food in the lives of older adults. Based on interviews and observations, we find that food is a significant and undervalued element of quality of life. In this paper, we explore the pleasures that food brings in different contexts.
