Description The article places Peter Berger's Introduction to Sociology into the historical context and experience of its Czech (and Slovak) readers. It traces the sources of attractiveness of the Berger's book, ecpecially before 1989, accentuating its critical but non-partisan style. Next, it also poits to some methodological limits of Berger's treatise, particularly those tied to the atmosphere of the 1960s: the perspective of authenticity and emancipation of an individual from a reified society. In the end, it attempts to re-value Bereger's understanding of practical impact of a critical sociology.
