Description Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis (PCI) is a rare disease in which gas filled cysts develop within the bowel wall. PCI can be linked to various underlying pathologies. However, in some cases, PCI seems to be idiopathis, in which case it can be argued whether this idiopathis character does not bertay inadequate diangostic means. Conservative treatment of PCI and particularly underlying pathologies is recommended in most patients and surgery is reserved for acute or life-threatening complications, such as colonic necrosis, perforation, or peritonitis. Authors present two somewhat atypic cases of PCI. On these observations, at least two recommendations can be stated: In an asymptomatic PCI, each and every possible underlying diseases must be excluded. When a patient has sarious complaints and the conservative treatment fails, there can be allways performed safe laparoscopic resection of the affected intestinal segment with satisfactory results.
