Description Increased oxidative stress plays an important role in the aging processes. Besides, elevated plasma homocysteine, particularly evident in elderly, has been recognized as a risk factor for many pathological states including oxidative stress. Selenium as a component of antioxidative enzymes is associated with the protection against oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to assess plasma malondialdehyde as a marker of lipid peroxidation in relationship to selenium in hyperhomocysteinemic elderly subjects in the course of a long-term selenium supplementation.
