Description The author presents current informations about Paget s disease of bone. The work involves recent knowledge about etiology and epidemiology of the disease. The author describes typical radiological signs in long bones, pelvis, vertebral column and skull. Symptomatic forms of the disease include pain, bone deformity and fatigue. Clinical course can be light, moderate and severe. There are several complications: fissures, fractures, osteoarthritis, deafness, lesions of spinal cord, sciatica or paraparesis, cardiovascular complications (hypertension, ischemic hearth disease, cardiomegalia), neoplasmatic degeneration, nephrolithiasis. The treatment of choice are bisphosphonates (pamidronate, zoledronate, alendronate, risedronate, clodronate). The authors discusses possibilities of surgical treatment of complications (osteosynthesis, total hip replacement).
