Description Malignant transformation of prostate cancer is associated with metabolic dysregulation of heavy metals. There is so - yet unknown mechanism - to raise serum levels of metallothionein (MT), low molecular weight cysteine-rich protein with antioxidant potential, compassionately detoxification of heavy metals. MT levels are significantly increased (p <0.01) in serum of patients with biopsy-proven acinar adenocarcinoma (the most common form of prostate Ca) on the staging of the T 1c-4, compared with the control group levels are increased more than threefold. Sensitivity increase is 100% of patients. MT levels are not dependent (correlation coefficient r <0.2 or higher and statistically insignificant) in the PSA for staging the disease and the presence of comorbidities hypertension, hyperlipoproteinemia and ischemic heart disease. MT levels decreased with increasing tumor grade (r = -0.3 at p <0.05).
