Description Spirituality plays an important role in work as well as in personal lives of the hospice personnel. It is present in the decision to work in a hospice, in the understanding of one’s role in a hospice and in perception of death and dying that are omnipresent in a hospice. It allows one to see death and dying as not threatening their view of the world. Spirituality is most often represented by Christian faith, one which is intentionally chosen and actively sustained. Although work in a hospice and the impulse to do this work are often understood as fulfillment of the role prescribed by one’s symbolical universe, it should not be seen as life-as religion (Heelas, Woodhead). Spirituality of the hospice personnel is, on the contrary, characterized by reflexivity, holistic orientation and permanent re-creation of transcendent universe. Their spirituality does not manifest itself only in their thoughts but also in the meanings they associate with their work and in their communication with patients.
