Transition from school to work: Building a career development mindset

Lecturer: Dana Pereg, PhD (Head of M.A. Program in Organizational Behavior & Development, IDC, Herzliya, Israel)

While pursuing a degree is an intense, structured, time-bound journey, your career path might be ambiguous, unexpected and fast-changing. The transition from being a student to becoming a young professional modifies one’s identity and requires an understanding of the contemporary world of work, as well as an inner awareness of your own motivations and career aspirations.

In this lecture we will address this challenge by using different career metaphors (Inkson, 2005). We will discuss career development from the perspective of narrative theory and conclude by examining how students and institutions (university, work places) could facilitate this meaningful transition.
