Presentation of The Black Box Book. Archives and Curatorship in the Age of Transformation of Art Institutions

BOOK LAUNCH: THE BLACK BOX BOOK

How are the current crises reflected in the presentation of art? How does curatorial practice respond to them? How does the role of galleries change in this situation? What about the transformation of cultural content into a virtual space? Answers to these questions are sought by a new collective monograph of sixteen Czech and foreign authors. The Black Box Book, subtitled Archives and Curatorship in the Age of Transformation of Art Institutions (Masaryk University Press, 2022), offers an insight into both local and broader cultural frameworks. The team of authors explores the evolving topology of online curation and the use of artificial intelligence in online curatorial practice. In doing so, it reflects on their own exhibition projects, using terminology developed within the theoretical discussion surrounding online curation, based on the theory of digital and network media.

The publication is the result of a long-term cooperation between the TIC Gallery and the Theory of Interactive Media of the Masaryk University Faculty of Arts. This publication was supported by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.

The book will be presented by its editors Jana Horáková, Marika Kupková, Monika Szűcsová and the graphic designer Alina Matějová. The book is published online in open access mode and written in English.
