Demographic change poses major societal and policy challenges, yet reliable and comparable data to study its causes and consequences remain scarce and fragmented. The Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) provides unique longitudinal and cross-national survey data on family dynamics, fertility, ageing, intergenerational relations, and migration. Building on its success in more than 30 countries worldwide, the EU-funded GGP-ACE project will advance the transition of GGP into a permanent European Research Infrastructure Consortium (GGP-ERIC), supported by at least eight founding members. The project will activate an operationready Central Hub, and implement the governance, legal, and financial frameworks necessary for long-term sustainability. It will also
consolidate methodological and technical standards, strengthen interoperability with other European research infrastructures, and expand membership and partnerships globally. By doing so, GGP-ACE will ensure that GGP becomes the leading infrastructure for high-quality, cross-national demographic and family research, providing open and FAIR data to researchers, policymakers, and societal stakeholders in Europe and beyond.
