Description Czech regions have experienced a series of changes in connection with the wider socio-historical transformations. Up to this day, Czech regions have still been coping with major changes brought about in 1970s and later. In 1990s, yet another major change occurred; the regions were subjected to the new model of market economy (together with the rest of Czech society). Many regions have still not dealt successfully with the new conditions. Current changes in the Czech regions are connected with the adoption of Common Agricultural Policy and the search for new ways of development. There are many possible ways of development of countryside, yet none has proven to be a way out of the current state of affairs in the regions. The present article describes the current situation in Czech regions and suggests possible solutions to the problems the regions are facing.
