| Description | Orthopteran insects are very conspicuous and generally rather familiar group of insects. However, a publication introducing Orthopterans to wide scientific community was not elaborated in Czech language yet. The book brings complete survey of all species of Czech fauna (presently 96) supplemented with species occurring in neighbouring countries. All species are characterized in light of morphology, bionomics, ecology and sound displays (stridulation) and illustrated with photographs in their natural environment. Attached CD contains original audio-recordings of sound displays of all stridulating species which would allow their acoustic identification. Significant part of the book represents an illustrated identification key whereby on the base of conspicuous morphological characters all species of the Czech fauna, including potential ones, may be identified mostly directly in the field. Introductory part of the book closely introduces morphology of Orthopterans, their ecological demands, life strategies, threats and protection, habitats and zoogeography, but also methods of their study. The field-guide is dedicated both to experts, teachers, students and pupils and to nature lovers and conservationist, professionals as well as amateurs. |
