Description The Czech part of Upper Silesian Basin is located at the north-east of Czech Republic. The basin was formed in the foreland of Variscian orogen in Carboniferous age. This work show thermal maturity trends of study basin with depth in exploration boreholes Lazy and Staříč using microscopic measurements of the vitrinite reflectance. As a regional analogue ten comparative samples were analyzed in the exploration boreholes of the Saříč Mine. The quality check was performed through parallel analysis of the volatile matter in the laboratory at the RWTH Technical University Aachen. The measured parameters from borehole Lazy were used as calibration data for the model of thermal history built by the PetroMod 11 software (fy Schlumberger). There was created three scenarios of thermal maturity of basin. Only in one scenario were consistent of measured values with calibrate parameter. The model suggests that the present profile of the Paleozoic strata is a relic of an original sequence, which was by ca 1800 m thicker than the preserved one. The overburden units were probably removed by erosion during the Permian through Paleogen prior to deposition of the Carpathian Foredeep in the early Miocene.
