Description The paper deals with the efficiency of European subsidy system – more precisely, it focuses on the effects of the subsidy on the companies’ competitiveness as a crucial aspect of the regional competitiveness. The subsidy effect is evaluated for the Operational program Industry and Enterprise by nine financial indicators which were used for measuring the companies’ competitiveness level. The total amount of EUR 200 mil drawing by 241 Czech manufacturing companies during the period 2004 – 2006 does not lead to increasing company competitiveness (measured by financial indicators). Seven out of nine analyzed financial indicators even show significant decrease of company competitiveness. The added value of this paper consists in several points: firstly, the paper presents innovative technique for measuring the company competitiveness. Secondly, it creates a unique subsidy evaluation model. Thirdly, research is based on robust data matrix contenting 25,111 gathered financial values. Finally, research brings interesting conclusion which negate positive effect of European subsidies on company competitiveness.
