Description This chapter from a specialist book „Gestalt therapy in clinical practice“ presents a scientific view on the topic of diagnostics seen from the Gestalt psychotherapy point of view. Current research based findings and specialist literature on the topic of diagnostics are elaborated, then a new and original scientific piece of knowledge is presented. The chapter focuses on the possibility of using different diagnostic perspectives, substantiates their advantages and limits in a clinical practice with severely disturbed patients. Clinical experiences on the given topic are elaborated. Psychopathology is seen (1) from the perspective of a psychopathological disturbance, (2) from the perspective of a broader social context and (3) from the perspective of a relational field dynamics. Guidelines for psychotherapy work in clinical practice are deduced from described diagnostic procedures and ilustrated by case study examples.
