Description The authors report the first records of the horsefly Hybomitra tarandina from the Czech Republic from two localities in the Šumava Mts. and one locality in the Krušné hory Mts. Now, we know 57 species of horse fly from the Czech Republic, and 50 species from the territory of Bohemia. The findings from the Šumava Mts. and the Krušné hory Mts. complement our general knowledge about distribution of this species in Europe. In both mountains, all findings were from peatbogs analogous to neighbouring part of Bavaria or Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In the edge of distribution area, H. tarandina is obviously a species with montane distribution associated with upland peatbogs.
