Description This paper considers mediation through sociologising perspective with a special focus on the impact of social influences. Mediation is connected with the outset of post-modern society, that is with the world of networks and deregulations which leads to searching for alternative solutions of conflicts. These alternatives are based on empha-sizing individual responsibility and active involvement in coping with conflicts. The mediation is to be viewed through three sociological paradigms. Mediation is currently one of the tools of social control in which social control is summarizing term for all the mechanisms that ensure order and stability of the socie-ty. In this conception, mediation is a way how to deal with growing conflicts in post-modern society, and with the discontent of participants of the conflict with the-ir solutions. Mediation looks for new approaches to reach mutual understanding of plu-ralism of thoughts, ways of behaviour, value systems and orientations. Nowadays we encounter new possibilities of interpretation of different so-cial deviances with the aim to understand them in their specific social context. Even criminality as an extreme form of deviant behaviour is not understood only as a behaviour exceeding the social norm but also as an interpersonal conflict, and from this point of view are considered possible solutions. In conclusion, this paper points out some pitfalls of mediation in postmodern so-ciety which can be viewed through the discourse of emancipation or discourse of control and supervision.
